I am writing this cover letter to you in regards to Metrolinx Capital Projects Group (Planning) in Toronto. I am interested in this position because ever since I been exposed to societies’ environmental and transportation issues, and Jane Jacob’s principles of urban planning, I developed a strong passion for transportation infrastructures, public transit operations, and effective urban planning, with a vision to design better communities. I would like to work for Metrolinx because they are one of Canada’s largest transit organizations with an objective to plan public transit to promote sustainable modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), which is also a vision of mine. From establishing the Union Pearson Express and the Eglinton Crosstown LRT to integrating Presto to form a uniform payment method for all transit riders in the GTHA; the work that Metrolinx does along with their plan of the “The Big Move”, has inspired me to bring my knowledge and skills to help Metrolinx build a more accessible and sustainable Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. …show more content…
While through assignments, I have researched a variety of topics pertaining to public transit, such as whether the Greater Toronto Area should expand their transit system with subways or light rail transit; by researching existing infrastructures, analyzing statistics, and interpreting the question through different stakeholders' perspectives. Assignments like these have expanded my knowledge and interest in transportation engineering and public transit, and strengthen my research and critical thinking abilities, in which I believe will be beneficial for this

Due to the negative impact our company has made to the local traffic, I have thoroughly analyzed our workforce's transportation methods and provided potential solutions. I've conducted an employee survey discussing employee carpool habits, public transportation, and telecommunication. Employee Carpool Habits In the following chart, I recorded how many employees carpool and divided the responses into four categories : Every day , Certain days , Randomly , Never . As shown in Figure 1, out of 43,500 employees, more than half the company "never" carpools.…

The design of the system also will focus on improving the land use pattern by implementing development policies along the corridor to influence the city’s form. This is important as public infrastructure specifically transportation will dictate what development path a city adopts. In this case, the implementation of a LRT will encourage a compact mixed used corridor with both high density residential and commercial development that is highly accessible. This will discourage sprawl along with the externalities associated with it. The physical design of the Hurontario LRT system is an example of best practice as its design revolves around solving a specific problem.…

Dallas was late to build a municipal rail transport system, yet today its DART light rail system is the largest in the United States at a total system length of 85 miles. Troubled by a rocky start, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit authority was faced with the stubborn reluctance of voters to spend any taxpayer money on public transportation infrastructure. However, once the wheels of development started in motion, there was no chance of them stopping. Over the course of 30 years, Dallas went from having the bare minimum of public transportation to having a world-renowned commuter rail system that spans even beyond the boundaries of the city. The economic and spatial impact of the DART rail system is reminiscent of the electric streetcars — save…

This letter is a formal appeal to you for assistance with the tuition fees for continuing my education. I had to suspend my education at HBU (Houston Baptist University) because of the increment in tuition fee; I came from a family with no savings, my mother was a single mother (61 years old going to 62) who raised me in a low-income apartment life, no education nor funds for her ending years. HBU (Houston Baptist University) recently funded a football team in which they did well for their first year, and I believe this is the more reason the tuition fee was increased; I am not an athlete, but it is my wish that my dream of going to school come true. I am currently working but having my dream job will set my life in order forever for I am about entering into a new chapter of my life.…

Before I finish college I hope to take some sort of creative writing class as I feel as I haven’t given that opportunity much in recent years amidst constant essays on topic that I do not care about. Critical Infrastructure (CI) is very important because the nation relies on it to carry out its essential activities. Since there are many essential activities that must be carry out at all times across the nation, CI has been divided into 16 different CI sectors (Department of Homeland Security, 2017). While each sector is different and perform different functions, all CI sectors are interdependent. That means that each CI sector relies on the functions of other CI sector(s) in order to be able to carry out their functions. That is why all CI Sectors are equally important because the disruption of one CI sector could also lead to the disruption of another or multiple CI sectors.…

Greater Toronto Area (GTA) dominates the rest of Canada in terms of high volume of transportation but at the same time the region is facing serious problems in its transportation sector. Toronto Pearson Airport underwent a $4.4 billion on the redevelopment of its Terminal 1 alone built by the not for profit airport authority, while on the other hand TTC buses have long past their normal life expectancy on the streets (Keil, & Young, 2005). The city of Toronto is also known as the region that is very well served by the Toronto Transit Commission with limited resources and funds. According to Roger Keil and Douglas Young in their article “Transportation: the bottleneck of regional competitiveness in Toronto” almost 1.3 million people use TTC…
