The best way to prevent the spread of germs at a hospital is meticulous handwashing. When shadowing, it would be vital that I wash my hands as directed by hospital protocol before and after having contact with a patient, after using the restroom or having any contact with body fluids, and before eating or preparing food. If a patient is on any isolation precautions, it would be essential that I wear the required protective wear. It would also be important that the equipment use by patients for physical therapy be properly sanitized or safely discarded.
