Metias Iparis In The Legend Quotes

In the novel ‘Legend’ by Marie Lu, a character that could be considered a best friend is Metias Iparis. He could be considered a best friend because first of all, he is non-judgemental. The text states, “I wonder if I can catch the plague from these people, even though I’m vaccinated. Who knows where they’ve been. Then I stop myself. Metias has told me ever to judge the poor like that.” (pg. 97) This quote relates to my position on the topic because it shows how Metias never judged anyone, especially by their looks. Second of all, he was protective. On page 48-49, it said, “It couldn’t have been accidental - that knife went straight through Metias’s heart. Straight through his intelligent, stupid, stubborn, overprotective heart.” This text represents how Metias was protective of his loved ones, particularly of his sister and friends. Lastly, Metias was benevolent. The text explicitly states, “Every other memory from my childhood - looking out into the auditorium as I receive an award, or having soup made for me when I’m sick, or being scolded, or …show more content…
This is an ideal setting because it enhances the plot and characters of the novel. In addition, it helps set up the rest of the story. I wouldn’t consider visiting the setting in my novel because the Republic contains lots of plagues and diseases which results in more and more death every day there. The text cites, “ Even if one of them is infected, it’s early enough that they’ll still have a chance to recover. I can’t stop imagining what will happen if the soldiers mark my mother’s door…. In the morning, they’ll start receiving small rations of food and water and simply wait to recover. Or die.” (pg. 9) This demonstrates how so many people perish from the plagues that surround the cities and how there is only a miniscule chance that they can heal. To sum up, the Republic is an exemplary setting in my

Cicero was a greatly respected Roman philosopher and writer who tried teaching the Romans about Greek philosophy and rhetoric. To persuade the Roman citizens, Cicero used the art of rhetoric in his speeches. While reading his speech again, one can notice the use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos—the three ways to persuade an audience, according to Greek philosopher Aristotle (Edlund).…

We plan out a perfect and hardship free journey to get us right in front of our goal or accomplishment. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world. In any type of journey, we will encounter a certain type of adversity that will try to get us off track and give up on our goals or dreams. As I think about what Horace stated and refer to my thinking, I come to agree with Horace’s statement: “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.”…

Mercutio’s use of figurative language demonstrates the Great Chain of Being because of his intelligence when compared to the lower class who are not as high or educated as he. This further demonstrates society and perspective of that time. Mercutio is a kinsman to the Prince of Verona, who is high on the Great Chain of Being due to this status. It is then fair to say that Mercutio would also be higher up on the chain than others, like the Nurse and Peter. Mercutio demonstrates this intelligence by telling Romeo “True, I talk of dreams; /Which are the children of an idle brain, /Begot of nothing but vain fantasy;” (I. iv.…
