Method Of Loci Strategy

Throughout this class I have learned many different tricks to help with everyday life. With that said I would like to share one way life can be improved and that is through the Method of Loci. This mnemonic strategy assumes that a person can best remember places that they are familiar with. So, if you can link something you need to remember with a place that you know very well, the location will serve as a clue that will help you to remember it. To me this skill will help with so many ways which is why I want to share it with you. All throughout our lives we are forced to know things, memorize things. To help with this all you must do it use the Method of Loci. Imagine a familiar location with familiar objects and a routine you frequently make. A good example of this would be when you wake up in the morning, usually in your own bed and then you go through out your morning routine. The experimenters hypothesized that the use of the method of loci or MOL leads to better understanding of topics among students, which can be observed through better student performance on assessments. Two groups were created to assess this hypothesis. Both groups were taught about insulin and diabetes and then tested on what they learned, but group 1 was not taught with MOL while the second group was. The independent variable is the test that both groups had to take while the dependent variable is whether the MOL was used. A new way to test the method of loci would be to test it on two groups of senior citizens who tend to forget a lot and see if MOL helps them recall more information.
