To answer Essay Question 23 of Lesson 4, “What factors change air pressure and how would a meteorologist use this information to predict weather? Use Miami and New York as your examples.” We’ll assume that the question is referring to the climate more than the actual weather like stormy or clear. Given that assumption, this “meteorologist” would first take note of the altitude of both cities. This note would indicate that both cities are located at sea level. Then they would take note of the temperature of each city. This could range from 40-80ºF for New York and 70-90ºF for Miami. This slight difference between the two cities indicates that the atmospheric pressure in New York is greater than that in Miami, Florida. But as stated in the textbook,

From the correlation relationship coefficient we get by calculation. We can know that there is strong correlation between average temperature and the dew point. Which means that as the average temperature increase, the dew point will also increase. Besides, we can also know that there is no correlation between the average temperature and pressure, which means that the pressure of this place will not be affected by the temperature here. It is also the same between the sunrise and the maximum temperature, the change of one of them will not affect the other.…

The application of color and paint in a piece creates a noticeable surface texture within the work. This surface texture can be used to enhance the general chaos or conversely the straightforwardness of a work. The use of color within the image also has an effect on the overall mood of the painting and the viewer’s perception of the subjects. In Claude Monet’s Grainstacks (Snow Effect) the heavily textured surface of the painting and visibility of the separate brush strokes creates a sense of complexity, which along with the practice of keeping colors separate, adds to the visual depth of an otherwise very plain subject but still enforces the general mood of the painting. On the other hand in Kingstein’s Christ in a Pawn Shop the surface texture…

This analysis compares the precipitation patterns of six different Florida locations: Marathon Shores, Pensacola, Daytona Beach, Tavernier, Chipley, and Libson. All of these locations vary geographically, ranging from the Florida Keys to the Florida Panhandle. Based on the many physical geography theories learned in class so far, it can be asserted that precipitation varies throughout the state of Florida. Indeed, there are many factors that influence precipitation levels: convection, cold fronts, proximity to the ocean, and frequency of hurricanes. Of course, these are not the only factors that influence precipitation levels, but they are a major part of the process.…

Climate Science 1 Day In today’s time there is something called forcing factors which is the tilt of the Earth's axis which creates seasons but other factors that may impact climate systems are such volcanic aerosols which can cool climate and shorten growing seasons. Some instruments used to track climate patterns are thermometers, rain gauges, and stream gauges. Paleo proxies such as tree rings and cores from corals and ice caps also provide information on a resolution in terms of precipitation and in some cases extreme measures such as fires or volcanic activity. As the earth rotates on it’s axis…

There Will Come Soft Rains by Pamela Madsen is a six-movement oratorio that reflects upon “the 20th-century fascination for utopian salvation in California, the need for water and the meaning of rain” (Madsen, There Will Come Soft Rains). Inspired by the Mojave Desert, Madsen’s work involves intimate chamber music and sounds that collaborate with visual media and literary texts. The concert is performed by the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, the Eclipse String Quartet, and pianist Vicki Ray, who create vivid landscapes through their performances. Along with the ensemble, there were literary works spoken by Cory Hills, Vicki Ray and Maggie Parkins. These works trace “American literary figures across the 20th century hoping to find liberation from oppression that were quickly caught up in the rapidly changing world” (Madsen, There Will Come Soft Rains).…

Unfortunate events throughout life have adverse effects on the psyche, therefore, life needs purpose and meaning. Rituals can bring order to an otherwise chaotic life, or create an environment of confusion. In Andre Dubus’ “A Father’s Story” and William Hoffman’s “The Question of Rain,” rituals help the main characters keep up appearances because of indiscretions, or preserve tradition in light of opposition. People develop everyday rituals to keep from focusing on troubles of life or to fill voids of time throughout the day. These patterns include waking up early to run two miles, watching the sun rise over the horizon while perfecting yoga poses, or praying to God at various moments throughout the day.…

In summer, New York is about five degree centigrade and London is seven to eight degree centigrade. Sinnott-Armstrong claims that, although climate change is a pressing matter, an individual joyride has no causal role in climate change, as the emissions it produces are far too minuscule to make any difference in the larger scheme of things. Thus, individuals are not morally obligated to deprive themselves of a Sunday joyride in a gas-guzzling car. Rather, it is the United States’ (collective/government) moral obligation to help mitigate climate change (Sinnott-Armstrong, 2005). That said, he does agree that sometimes an act can cause harm even if it is not necessary or sufficient for the harm, but this is only true when an act is unusual and harm is intended (Sinnott-Armstrong, 2005, p.297). He explains this by comparing the act of releasing…
