Metaphysical Science Class Analysis

“Hardwork beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.” This saying my father has used to teach me that working hard can help achieve any goal. With this quote always in the back of my head, I entered the high school realm freshman year. At that point school had not posed to be particularly difficult for me, I did the work assigned and got the grades. This all changed during my freshman year when I stepped into my geophysical science class. Throughout my academic career up to that point I had never been challenged quite like I was in this science class. I had a teacher who loaded the homework high and gave very challenging test, to which I had not been prepared for. But knowing that I was not a person who was gifted with the talent of a photographic memory, to succeed in this class I was going to have to work hard, every day inside and outside of class.
The late nights, hours of homework, and the amount of stress caused by this class was what made me initially hate the class and even the teacher. My teacher kept saying that one day we would thank her for the lessons that we would learn in this class. Being the naive freshman that I was, I could not think of a time later in my life where knowing the difference between felsic magma, mafic magma, and plutons was going to help me. It

The realization that every educational experience that a person has, is meant to teach you not only about that specific subject but also about yourself and how to morph to become a better student from each experience. Now three years later I am still able to recall some things about that dreaded geophysical science class, but I was also able to learn how to write my own study guides and take good notes, two skills I have been able to extensively apply to all of my

The inspiring memoir, Discovering Wes Moore, written by Wes Moore teaches the reader many life lessons, which are included in the themes of the memoir. This first example of Wes Moore’s life teachings is “But hard work and putting in the effort to be good at something matters” (Moore 142). This quote from Wes Moore is important to me because when I work hard and put in my best effort I succeed immensely. When I read this fragment of Discovering Wes Moore, I am reminded that everything that I do, whether it is academic studies, dance, soccer, or piano, it should be done with my best exertion. If you are diligent with your work and doing your best you will succeed and achieve greatness throughout life.…

There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…

Upon enrolling in high school I realized that I could no longer put an average effort into easy class work and be rewarded with academic satisfaction. After joining the honors course along with band and the FFA, it was revealed to me that high school was a different culture than middle school. I quickly discovered that hard work would be required to be successful in everything I will ever do. Band demanded countless hours of practice, but I ultimately gained first chair in the top band, as well as squad leader over the trumpet section. Like band, the FFA required hours of dedication, but I distinguished myself from other FFA members.…

Coming from a multicultural community, the essence of being non-tendentious and empathetic towards everything minoritized in society are a significant importance to my parents. I was born biracial, with my mother being Argentinean and father being white. The value of vigorous work, loyalty to family, and education are prioritized by my parents and myself. The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

The thing that meant the most for me was having to think about things in a completely different way than I normally do. The readings and discussion questions in this course challenged my ideas and perspectives and allowed me to push the boundaries on how I currently think of my existence, reality and the universe. Since metaphysics is the study of existence and the foundations of our worldview, this course has helped to broaden my thinking and has given me the ability to understand that there is a deeper meaning to life. This course ultimately gave me the ability to interpret and understand the world and the reality that I live in. What challenged me to stretch my mind in this course was having to question our existence in the universe and…

Being set apart is about the journey along with the end success. I have set myself apart as a student at Texas Tech due to my leadership, ability to make outside commitments while supporting my course load, and my hard work and ability to overcome adversity. For the duration of high school, I was a leader for my younger peers by volunteering over 400 hours with Shallowater’s Middle School One Act Play program. I held the position of High School Assistant Director for two years, and the opportunity to influence young students was extraordinary.…

The goal of Boys & Girls Clubs is: “to provide a world-class Club experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who walks through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school, on time, with a plan for the future.” As a Club staff with little weight behind me to support this goal, it makes me a stone’s throw away from being labeled a hypocrite when I almost didn’t graduate from high school, let alone have a plan for the future. My childhood wasn’t glamorous enough to brag about, nor was it full of grief-stricken struggles that would warrant a tug at any heartstrings. It was simple. I grew up with both of my parents and my brother who was 4 years my senior.…

I learned a lot about myself and how I am as a student. I have established many learning methods that help me learn and remember things. Somethings that will help me in my college journey is knowing I do not do well when it comes to lecture setting classes, but something I can do in that situation is record everything going on in the class so I know I am following along and write my own notes in the margins to help myself. Another thing that will help in college is my will to get things done on time, no matter how much work it is and little time.…

I’ve been thoroughly enthralled by psych since before I took a psych class. However, there were certain things we covered that just seemed to stick in my noggin like glue and made the class periods fly by! For starters, I adored when we learned about relationships. Though I try not to analyze things too much, I do really enjoy having an understanding about how people respond to things and why some people stay together and some don’t. So since I have only ever had one boyfriend and we are still together, I thought a little friendly analysis wouldn’t hurt.…

Learning has the power to transform all of us. We have the opportunity to shape and mold our minds into learning whatever we desire. It wasn’t until my first semester of college that I learned what the six stages of learning are and how our emotions affect our learning. Emotion is the on and off switch for learning. It’s important for us to understand this process and how we learn biologically.…

Likewise, learning not only from the book, but also from others by listening to their opinions and ideas. Also, I need to study smart rather than studying hard.
