In the play Romeo and Juliet Capulet’s continued use of death imagery extends a theme that began in Act One. The speech uses metaphors and personification to extend the theme. Capulet states “Death is my heir;” (4.5.38) He is saying that Death has taken Paris’s place as Juliet’s partner, making death her partner for eternity. Capulet continues, saying,“My daughter he hath wedded. I will die and leave him all.” (4.5.39) In this metaphor he says Death hasn’t just taken Juliet's life, Death has taken Capulet’s life as well as everything he owns. Death has taken Juliet, the heir of Capulet’s wealth and name. Capulet comprehend Juliet’s death as the end of the Capulet family bloodline. Death has also taken Juliet’s virginity. “Flower as she was,

In the 16th century tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses metaphor and diction, aimed at Tybalt and the 2 families, to reveal Mercutio’s own negative tone/attitude behind his outlook on those whom he had blamed for his death. For example, after Mercutio had been fatally struck from a sword blow by Tybalt in swords dual, Mercutio realizes he is going to die from being stabbed by Tybalt, and says “ I am peppered, I warrant, for this world. A plague o' both your houses! Zounds, a dog, a rat, a mouse, a cat to scratch a man to death! A braggart, a rogue, a villain that fights by the book of arithmetic!”…

There is a leitmotif that is created in the soft, love music that is played for the first time in the bathroom scene at the party where Romeo sees Juliet for the first time. This music begins to play each time they are together, as if it connects them. The visual track during this leitmotif is of Romeo and Juliet; the first time was through the fish tank that separated them. Their reflections appeared on the tank which symbolized how their “love at first sight” was true, there was no mask as the water between them was as transparent as their love. This music disappears when the two enter the party, but return again when they make their first kiss.…

Lady Juliet Capulet came to his cell for help because her beloved Romeo was banished. In an attempt to get them back together, the Friar gave young Juliet a potion that would put her into a sleep that appeared as death until Romeo came and then she would be awake. When giving Juliet the potion the Friar told her his plan, “Each part, deprived of supple government,/Shall, stiff and stark and cold, appear like death./And in this borrowed likeness of shrunk death/ Thou shalt continue two and forty hours,/And then awake as from a pleasant sleep./Now, when the bridegroom in the morning comes/To rouse thee from thy bed, there art thou dead./Then, as the manner of our country is,/In thy best robes uncovered on the bier/ Thou shalt be borne to that same ancient vault/Where all the kindred of the Capulets lie./In…

William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is his most famous comedy, second only to A Comedy of Errors. Readers are commonly drawn to its dream-like quality and its many references to dreams. Shakespeare, a master of metaphor, emphasizes the fluid nature of reality in his use of the sky. While it is tempting to analyze Shakespeare’s references to individual aspects of the sky (e.g., the moon), Shakespeare alludes to so many features of the sky or the heavens, that it becomes apparent that all individual components of the sky serve to inform one many-layered metaphor. For the audience, this multi-layered metaphor creates the illusion of otherworldly-ness.…

Metaphors are a way to abstractly discuss life, time, and history through vivid descriptions that awaken the imagination. As a master of figurative language, Shakespeare has enticed his audience for centuries through his beautiful and complex relationship of words, and the multitude of perspectives they offer. Throughout his works, he includes historical context, linguistic inferences, and significant interactions with the similes and metaphors that play a dynamic role in the life of the story. Within a “Midsummer’s Night Dream”, composed of an assembly of figurative language, this idea of the word “dream” itself, and the complexity of this in connection to the overall story and characters, will be explored further. Understanding it’s historical…

Shakespeare 's works frequently employ similes and metaphors to enhance the complexity of his writing, as well as to invoke distinct images that are being described for his audience. In Twelfth Night, Shakespeare continues with this theme in describing the beauty of countess Olivia. Viola, acting as a messenger on behalf of Orsino, conveys to Olivia the degree to which she finds her beautiful through a metaphor: 'Tis beauty truly blent, whose red and white Nature 's own sweet and cunning hand laid on. Lady, you are the cruell 'st she alive If you will lead these graces to the grave And leave the world no copy.…
