In Hunger of Memory, Rodriguez uses Imagery in multiple cases, an example of this is “Our house stood apart. A gaudy yellow in a row of white bungalows” (11). Rodriguez used this quote in hopes of getting the audience in his shoes. He wanted them to feel as if they were standing outside his house looking at it. This is important because as the reader continues to read the novel, Rodriguez hopes they will feel as if they’re in his shoes and sympathize with him throughout the whole novel. Another example of Imagery is “I looked up to the counter where red and green peppers were strung like Christmas tree lights and saw the frowning face of the stranger” (48). This example of imagery is odd. Rodriguez references Christmas, which is usually a happy time of year, and then goes on to mention a frowning stranger. It is as if this example is a reference to Rodriguez’s life, he should be happy because he has been given the opportunity to expose himself to the American culture and learn and benefit from it, but he is not something is missing. He wants the best of both worlds, he wishes he could have the full experience of the American culture, but also keep all of his Mexican culture. This is alludes to another major obstacle Rodriguez faces,
