Ideas are plants is a symbiotic metaphor of how a person’s idea is like an organic seed that sprouts, grows, bear fruit, and finally wither away and die. In the case of “Her eyes welled with emotion” (O’Brien, 2016, p. 118), we can represent that “welled” is referring to a well that contain water. Instead of a physical well, it is tears. But to determine if the emotions are either happiness or sadness an individual is going through, it is up to interpretation.
Life is a gambling game can be translated as how we have multiple choices to make through out of life. Each choice made at the start of our day or event of our life have different outcomes as a result of that choice. O’Brien (2016) says, “He’s bluffing” (p. 119), they’re stating that they’re trying to work their way to their goal even if it means lying. Perhaps “lying” is a metaphor about trying to pass a difficult obstacle or to be lucky in either at the start or during of choosing such path towards our goal.
