To begin, it is important to define the metaparadigm which includes the client, nurse, environment, and health. When looking back through my past and times that either I have been in the hospital or those that I love dearly have been, it has been those nurses that made an attempt to connect with the family that have made an impact on my life. That leads into the next part of the metaparadigm that I would like to discuss, the nurse. Depending on who you talk to this work could have a myriad of meanings. I believe in the simplest of terms it is the person who works to care for the people around them, especially when that person is not able to care for themselves. Yet, there is so much more to it than that. A nurse is an advocate, someone who will speak up when the patient is unable. A nurse is a teacher, someone who will show and teach you ways to improve your health or what medications may or may not do. A nurse is someone who, the majority of the time, is seeing someone at their lowest points and does not want to look down at them at that point but work with them to get them stronger and back to health.
