Metamorphosis Family Values

Family values in Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” is portrayal as the same way a business is run. When the leader of the family can’t perform the job anymore someone must take his place. You can see this when Gregor’s father takes it upon himself to lead the family after Gregor fails to do his job. The family also shows business mentality of firing anyone that hurts the business. They did this when they were talking about getting rid of Gregor as he only held the family back. Doesn’t matter what someone’s job is, if they don’t perform they will be fired. When the one leading the family can’t perform the job anymore someone must take their place. You can see multiple time throughout the story as Mr. Samsa takes the leading role of the family when Gregor is unable to anymore. For instance, After Gregor’s death he immediately kicked out the boarders without consulting anyone. He even did it as if he was firing them. As he order the boarders by saying, “Leave my apartment at once.” (Kafka 127) He even pointed towards the door and did not expect any back talk what so ever. Where the family members have different role such as employee or boss. The head of the family the is the boss and the rest are the employees. This is shown throughout the story as Mr. Samsa takes Gregor’s old position as head of the family. Making the final decisions of the family in the same manner the boss would in a business. At the end of the story the family got tried of their lazy sick employee and fried him. They didn’t account for his past work he had done. They treated him as just another employee on the pay role. The family values of this family match so perfectly with that of the business world that it can be seen as part of
