The event that i am reviewing is the Handel’s Messiah concert performed by The Milwaukee area Messiah community chorus and orchestra. Performed In Mequon, WI, 4 soloists including a large Chorus and Baroque style orchestra performed. Compared to modern-day symphonies I was astonished at the small baroque style orchestra that was historically accurate that which of used in the baroque times. Now, this concert was very baroque in nature and differed greatly from the standard contemporary music played in the church today and tempo/tonality of the performance seemed faster and with a different sound. Handel's Messiah as performed is what developed into most of our precessions during the holiday season. Handle wrote the Oratorio for

This paper is a review of Jeansonne Glen’s biography “Messiah of the Masses: Huey P. Long and the Great Depression”. Glen doesn’t believe Long to be a saint nor a sinner; however, he does believe Long’s biggest priority wasn’t the people but himself. The author wrote this biography of Long as a young man getting his first start in politics, his campaign for governor, also his impeachment. In the book Messiah of the Masses: Huey P. Long and the Great Depression, the life of Huey Pierce Long is fully narrated and studied.…

I attended the American Landscapes performed by Oklahoma State University Symphony Orchestra and Dr. Thomas Dickey conducted the orchestra. The concert was held at the Serentean Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the concert, I was an amateur, listener to this type of music. I had never witnessed a live performance of this musical style before. I would consider myself to be a passive listener.…

The event that I decided to go was BYU Baroque Ensemble, a production made by BYU students, taking place at Madsen Recital Hall Harris Fine Arts Center on November 3. The idea of making a baroque orchestra is where musician get together to make a perfect composition of music, the baroque orchestra is made up mostly of stringed instruments, when you listen you feel something different that makes you see it from another perspective, you just can’t stop listening and focus on every note that the musicians are playing. The type of instruments that were utilized in conjunction were the basso continuo, played by a viol, cello or bassoon. Other parts were added between the melody and the bass by a keyboard instrument, usually a harpsichord or organ and the development of tonal harmony, in which the melodic voices movement remains under the functional chord progression.…

On April 26th of this year I attended a faculty recital in the Walker Recital Hall. The recital featured the Presque Isle Saxophone Quartet with Allen Zurcher, Bethany Dressler, Rebecca Wunch, and Scott Meier. The hall was not fully filled with spectators, however, attendees were very supportive and enthusiastic about the artists. The performance consisted of the 20th and 21st century music pieces, which was something I did not expect. To surprise this performance did not take long time and was over in about hour and 15 minutes.…

The New Jersey Chamber Singers and the Bridgewater-Raritan High School Symphonic Choir performed a choral concert, Psalms from Age to Age, located at The Presbyterian Church of Toms River. This performance by both of these choirs was impressive, as well as organized due to the talent and easy flow between each song. This performance was in a beautiful church with stained glass windows; the windows provided a sense of colorful light inside of the church, which I loved. The inside of the church was a great temperature and the seating was comfortable. The church is old; therefore, the seating is also old, but there were cushions on the pews, making it relaxing.…

Concert Report # 2 Handel’s Messiah Tenebrae with Chamber Choir I have never been to a Handel’s Messiah concert before, so this was a treat for me, and it also was my first professional choir experience. In the beginning, the tenor began to sing, but either his was not working or the acoustics worked against him, because I could not hear him that well. His diction, however, was very crisp, so despite all odds, he did an excellent job. When the choir came in, “And the Glory of the Lord” I really felt the power of the Tenebrae choir.…

With my high school choir, I learned the work as a freshman, performed it that same year, and was later invited to sing with the St. Mark’s Episcopal Choir alongside choral and orchestral professionals. I have returned to St. Mark’s each December, earnestly awaiting to unleash the undulating melodies that lie in hibernation throughout the year. Not only is Handel’s music physically challenging, but also highly technical. The harmonic counterpoint, melismatic fugues, and other Baroque features of the oratorio all broadened my understanding of music theory, and how music can convey deep…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

I attended this amazing show on the 4th of December. I love learning about Greek Mythology so I was already enthusiastic about attending this show.…

On Thursday, September 29th at 7:30pm I attended the LU Symphony Orchestra Concert in Towns Auditorium. Prior to the concert beginning, I noticed a wide variety of instruments on the stage. There were some instruments that I did not know the name of but for the most part, I knew a large majority of the string, woodwind and brass instruments presented. The last time that I went to a symphony was when I was in elementary school, so attending an orchestral concert in college was a much different experience. I was fascinated by the diversity of instruments.…
