Mesopotamia And Greece Comparison

Two thriving civilizations historians often examine are the civilization of ancient Greece and the civilization of Mesopotamia. While alike in many ways, these two areas have quite a few differences as well. Ancient Greece and Mesopotamia were similar in that they both had great political leaders and citizens in both paid tribute to the government, and they differed in their treatment of women and the type of advances they had. Ancient Greece and Mesopotamia both had great political leaders that made an impact on their societies. Specifically, Greece had the leader Pericles. His impact on Greece was so profound that the period in which he led Athens has been called the 'Age of Pericles'. He led with strength and the people admired him for doing such. Just as Pericles was admired throughout Greece, Sargon was admired all through Mesopotamia. Sargon is recorded to have founded the Akkadian Empire. Forming an empire is one thing, but keeping it operating is quite another! Sargon was the first to unite the city-states under a single powerful ruler. Tribute is something that is paid to make the bad guys go away. In the case of these civilizations, the tribute they both paid was money. In Greece, cities paid tribute to the Delian League, which was an association of Greek city-states, under the leadership of Athens. Its purpose was to continue fighting the Persian Empire to ensure that they did not take over. When cities could not afford to pay these tributes, conflict arose. In Mesopotamia, tribute was paid to a war chest to support the troops and military that went out and battled for land. By paying tribute, cities were united for the common goal that they wanted to
