Although a large amount of historical information about Mesoamerica can be found online, many facts researched by archaeologists are found in museum databases. The Chicago Field Museum emphasize more reliable, detailed online information about Mesoamerican art than the Peabody Museum at Harvard University. However, there is little to no information about the Aztec Sun Stone on the Field Museum's website. A considerable amount of the information that people expect to learn about the Sun Stone can be found on countless other sites that had also researched the subject. Aside from the Sun Stone, it is pretty difficult to find much about the artifacts featured in the museum. Wondering deeper into the website may bring visitors to the research and expedition side museum. Granted that it may not be the easiest webpage to find through the Field Museum's website. This side of the site provides information about the objects that were found in Oaxaca, Mexico. But even so, things that were found there may not even be in display in the actual museum itself and only this information can be found on the website or an appointment in …show more content…
Linda Nicholas had gone to multiple excavations documenting artifacts not only in Oaxaca, Mexico. The information isn't found directly on the main website for visitors. People can get to it by doing a little digging. This area of the website is for looking through the research and expeditions that the Chicago Field Museum had conducted around the world. Both of the information provided helps people have a hold on what Mesoamerica was like however, the Peabody Museum's description of the artifact may be a bit over the top or too glamorized. Though, the information is focused on when the artifact was used, they are quite vague about why it even existed. The Field Museum provides good, solid facts and information about the object it presented

Over five hundred years ago, cleric Diego de Landa approached an abandoned society lost in the jungles of Central America. His findings led him to make assumptions of these people he marked as savages. De Landa denounced these people as “idolatry, divorce, sacrificial, and slave traders” (qtd. in Gibson 13). Nearly three centuries after de Landa’s account, the U.S explorer John Lloyd Stephens noted his discovery of an altar among the ruins of a Central American city called Copán, with the company of British architect Fredrick Catherwood (Gibson 13).…

In recent studies archeologist have discovered another smaller temple inside the original El Castillo temple. To find the other pyramid inside archeologist have used a modern electrical imagined technology called tri-dimensional electric resistivity tomography also known as ERT-3D. By speaking to another individual, I obtained a new level of understanding for her culture that differed from mine. My research subject was a Mexican-American born in California. She spoke of her struggle between dealing with two conflicting cultures. On one hand she wants to be part of her family’s heritage and Mexican culture but on the other hand, she is still a teenage American girl. Coming from a family who are primarily immigrants, there is great expectation for her to represent her culture, but being born in America already makes her seem less Mexican to the native-born.…

And in some cases, society will pick which articles to preserve and destroy the others altering what we learn and how we perceive cultures.…

Historical archaeology in California covers the time span after Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo reached San Diego in 1542; however, it tends to be considered the beginning with the period of Spanish colonization starting in 1769 with the arrival of Gaspar de Portola 's expedition in San Diego and goes all the way into the 20th century. Archaeological studies of what is called the Exploration Period from 1542-1769, the Spanish Colonial Period from 1769-1821, the Mexican Republic Period from 1821-1846, and the American Period from 1846-present, have taken place at least since the 1940s. For the most part, theoretical and methodological approaches in California reflect American historical archaeology but vary by region, time period, and specific problems.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…
