Mernissi begins to understand that the frontier seems to be changing everything around her in a way that she must figure out it works before she loses everything. It can also be seen that a young Mernissi has all most a split representation on the different frontiers. For her, it is both a source of happiness coupled with sources of pain. She and the other women feel smothered and at the beginning, they have this overwhelming pressure by the frontier. Mernissi has made it one of her life’s occupation in finding the frontier and it eats away at her when she cannot overcome her
