Mermaid Monologue

The tangy sea breeze of the early morning filled the room with the aroma of salt and fish. As Debbie woke up she looked at the sea blue curtains on the right side of the room, the sun shining through made it resemble a waterfall. Just above the bed on the ceiling, a beautiful mermaid with sunny blonde hair swam above her. An orange starfish smiled over her shoulder. This was her safe haven and waking up in her room at her dad’s shore house always made her smile. Her grandmother had worked hard to paint the murals in her room and they always made her feel special and safe. She took a deep breath and promised to herself that she would get along with her father today. She headed downstairs to eat breakfast, the scent of bacon and the sweetness …show more content…
Every three or four days, she find another gift at the door each one wrapped in the same brown paper. They varied from a box of salt water taffy, a bottle of perfume, a plastic baby doll, and strangely, an antique silver baby’s rattle. She had only received one note and in the same neat handwriting and her name had been written on the first gift, it said, “Please be mine. I want to love every piece of you.¨ All the gifts were tossed into the drawer. She still had no idea who her admirer was and it made her uncomfortable especially after his cheesy love note that didn’t make any …show more content…
She froze then quietly backed out of her room and tip-toed downstairs to her dad’s office. He was not there but she found a note saying he had a meeting in the city and would be back later in the evening. She turned on every light in the house, closed all the curtains, made sure the phone was working, checked her cell phone for reception multiple times and locked all the doors. After an hour of worrying, she told herself to be brave and went upstairs and gathered the bedspread with its rows of gifts and took it outside. On the front lawn, she shook the bedspread out, the gifts spilling out across the yard. She yelled, ¨I don’t want this crap, you creep! Leave me alone.¨ She looked across the yard to the trees in the distance. She felt like a crazy person throwing stuff around the yard and screaming at no one but it also felt so good to her her frustrations out. ¨Find someone else to stalk. Find someone else to love. Just leave me

Amelie Thinking outside of the box is to think creatively without building up limitations for our thoughts or imagination. It is to be open minded about others and their values and beliefs and thus, not focus only on ours but also take theirs into consideration and accept the possibility of they being right, and us being okay with it. Also, thinking outside of the box is stepping out of our comfort zone, of what we’ve gotten used to and daring to try the unknown and do what has never been done and how it has never been done; it is to always seek and find ways to innovate and succeed in life and stand out in a society like ours that’s full of conformism. Moreover, the movie Amelie from 2001, narrates the life of a girl – Amelie – from Paris…

The Deeper Tale of the Mighty Mermaid When people think of Disney fairy tales, most immediately associate with fun, happy endings, imagination, and dreams come true. While this is not inherently wrong, it seems they can take it too far. Historically speaking, the majority of fairy tales intend to impart life lessons, values, and morals. However, when Disney sets out to create fairy tale films, ultimately, they tend to alter the original story line so much that the original context tends to disappear. The Little Mermaid is an example of this, and after further examination the contrast of the original intent of Andersen will be established.…

The Little Mermaid is a Disney movie about a young mermaid named Ariel. In the movie Ariel experiences several different conflicts throughout the entirety of the movie. Some of these conflicts could have been avoided if the characters would have used a non-judgemental tone/calm voice, clarified their real intentions, and established mutual purpose. Throughout the movie Ariel engages in flight many times when it comes to conflicts, though on the rare occasion she does choose fight. On the other hand, other characters such as her father, Sebastian, and Ursula engage in fight in over half of the conflicts they face.…

Reconciliation Interrupted by the faint sounds of birds chirping and grass swaying in the gentle breeze, the calming silence became a distant memory. As the birds flapped their wings, moving at the edge of the tiny meadow, from one tree to the next, they cast their shadows over the body of a small brown skinned, black haired girl. She lay on her back in the hilltop grass, facing directly up towards the almost blinding light of the afternoon sun. Her dark skin, holding a lively warm glow, reflected the rays of sunlight off of her quickly flickering eyelids. Suddenly, they were open, revealing her dark brown almond shaped eyes and her ever so slightly off white sclera.…
