Jasper, a kind mother, was out for a walk with her child, Quiver, in the deep woods where Merla’s tower was. Quiver ran ahead and got lost. Jasper panicked, searched, and ended up at the tower where Merla hid. Jasper spotted the dragon and looked surprisingly calm.
“They look honest, sincere. Worthy of a maiden fine as you.” The dragon smiled to the princess.
“Are you sure? Remember the last guy you said that of?” Merla frowned, then sighed.
“Invite them in.” …show more content…
Merla inhaled deeply and slowly exhaled. She descended the stairs to meet this mystery person.
“Hello,” she smiled. “I am Merla, princess of this kingdom. Might I ask what brings you here?
Jasper spun around. “Oh my! Dearest princess, I seek your help to locate my lost child, Quiver. Quiver wandered off and I have not much knowledge of these woods.”
Merla raised an eyebrow. “That is all you have come to me for? You do not wish to slay the dragon and take my hand in marriage?”
“Why would I do that? The dragon is kind, and I have no wish to be involved in romance with anyone, much less marry them. I am from another kingdom, and all I beg for is a map.” “Come with me. We shall fly over this forest with my dear friend here, the dragon. Then we can spot your child from above.” Merla proclaimed.
They took off on the dragon and Jasper gasped at the sheer power its wings had. Then she looked down and started to cry.
Merla hugged Jasper, realising she was crying because of how dense the woods were, and how hard it would be to find her child.
“Fear not,” Merla winked. “I have a way with the woods. It takes all my strength, but it would mean nothing if it would help a kind mother locate her …show more content…
“Dearest dragon, follow.” she whispered weakly. The dragon surged forward so fast it almost swept the poor princess off of its back. It landed with a thud, and Jasper swept the weak Merla into her arms and carefully climbed down to meet her lost child.
They got back to the tower, after Jasper’s child was showered with kisses and scolded for running off.
“Dearest princess Merla,” Jasper held her hand after she had regained her strength. “How did you do that to the woods? And is there anything I could do to repay you?”
Merla laughed. “As a child I ran away from home and reached these woods. I cried, and they listened to me, and they gave me the dragon to be friends with. The trees thickened, making it harder for anyone to find me. I suppose I’ve always connected with it.”
“As for you repaying me, I only request you kind souls stay with me here, and become my friends and family. I’ve always been lonely, and all I can ask for is a human friend. It gets hard to converse with dragon dear.” She chuckled.
“Oh, I will accept your request! There is nowhere I’d rather be than with my friends and family.” Jasper cried.
And that’s what they were. Happy friends, and a happy family.
