Thomas Jefferson chose Meriwether Lewis to go on an expedition to visit the Native Americans. Meriwether Lewis picked William Clark to go on the journey with him. Thomas Jefferson provided supplies including clothing, firearms, equipment, and rations. They were told by Jefferson to write down the history of the locations that they discovered on their expedition.
In December of 1803, William Clark established "Camp River Dubois”. While he was there he recruited and trained men. On May 14, 1804 William Clark and the Corps of Discovery left Camp River Dubois. There were 45 people that went along with him.
