When responding to these questions she told the Madres that she became interested in small schools based off of theory and academic research rather than the community being an integral aspect to the success of the school. When asked about the community’s relationship to the school, she responded, “we haven’t had a lot of interaction” (Dyrness 2001, p. 36). She completely disregarded the role that the community had on creating the school. These microaggressions continued on and got more blatant as the school year…

Before Harriet Taylor became the Principal she is today, she entered Bay District Schools as a third grader at none other than Springfield Elementary School, saying “It’s kind of cool that I got to start my career in the district here and now I get to end it here.” At Springfield, Harriet found her love for school. She describes her family as “abusive and very poor.” For her, the school became a break from her tumultuous home life, a place where she saw adults who lived their lives in a way that she admired. “Back then they sold ice creams on Friday, and my family could never afford to buy one, so my fifth-grade teacher Mrs. Snell used to let me stay after school and clean the chalkboards and then she’d buy me an ice cream as payment,” Harriet says fondly.…

“Mericans” written by Sandra Cisneros is a story about a group of children primarily a girl, who are stuck between a transitional period of their lives due to their changing environment. The short story demonstrates culturistic differences by both location and background. The title of the short story is a perfect example of detailing how the children felt while waiting outside the church. They felt ostracized due to their background and grandmother. The children 's grandmother gave them one order which was to stay outside the church and wait, however the outside world gave them another.…

I chose to analyze Mr. Clark’s speech from the movie Lean on Me. I believe the thesis statement is to appoint the staff in areas of the school to help improve the children’s education. The main point is Mr. Clark was elected to become the new Principle at Eastside High School; where it was defectively rundown and infested with crime. This lead to the school being overrun by drug dealers and causing the students fail their state test. Having failed their test repeatedly, the school was on the brink of being closed.…

Closing a Budget Deficit If I were tasked by my Board of Education to develop an Action Plan that would effectively and logically close the budget deficit while minimizing any adverse effects on the district’s provision of a quality and equitable education for all students I would begin by careful analysis of past budgets and then collect data on the community to determine trends of enrollment, housing, and socioeconomic conditions. According to Hartman (2003), there are two types of budget reductions: cost savings through improved efficiency and through program reductions (p. 164). Prior to making cuts I would go back to the planning process and try to close the fiscal gap by improving the budgeting process and working on efficiency.…

A clearly defined vision that is in alignment with a logical mission statement is essential in the development of attainable goals. Clear and concise communication about school goals must be consistent and resolute. As noted in the article, What Makes or Breaks a Principal, "The most effective principals operate from a value system that places high priority on people and relationships. The principal 's person -to-person relationships reverberate throughout the school culture" (Donaldson et al, 2009). Consistency in communication, actions, and relational skills are critical to establishing a positive school…
