Materialistic Lense …show more content…
They are both young surgeons at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Jackson is mixed black and white and April is white. Jackson grew up with a silver spoon and April grew up on a farm in the middle of the country.
Semiotic Lense
Everything is shown backwards in a sepia tone. The first scene has April, Jacksons and their lawyers sitting at a table singing divorce papers and we take a step back to losing the baby, then finding out they were pregnant and seeing how happy they were, all the way to Jackson stopping April from marrying another man and the first time they met. It was easier as a viewer to see how they ended up where they were by doing everything in reverse. In the end it was very impactful to see how miserable they became to how happy and hopeful they were when they started their first day as medical interns.
