Mercutio Responsible For Tybalts Death In William Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Say two individuals are fighting and one gets hurt. The offender usually is the one responsible for their actions, but not in this case. In William Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio is the one encouraging the fight which leads to his and Tybalt's death. Therefore causing him to be at fault for the duels and both deaths. Mercutio is responsible for Tybalt's death because he instigated Tybalt’s anger, he fights first and he dies. Mercutio is responsible for Tybalt’s death because he instigated Tybalt’s anger. When Mercutio says, “And but one word with one of us? Couple it with something. Make it a word and a blow” (3.1.16-17). Mercutio was saying to Tybalt that if he wants to talk they can talk, but he also wants to fight him. Mercutio says to Tybalt, “Good King of Cats, nothing but one of your nine lives, that I mean to make bold withal, and as you shall use me hereafter, dry-beat the rest of the eight. Will you pluck your sword out of his pilcher by the ears? Make haste, lest mine be about your ears ere it be out” (3.1.48-53). Mercutio is saying to Tybalt that he is the best fighter and has proved to have survived when he should have died at times but this time he is going to take his life away from him. Tybalt must hurry and draw his sword, before he begins the fight without him ready. Since Tybalt has a short temper, this made him angry and he accepted the fight with Mercutio. Even though Mercutio dies during this fight he urged Tybalt to start fighting.
