Meptoo Movement Research Paper

The #MeToo movement is about giving people a voice and was ultimately created to ensure survivors knew that they are not alone. The movement was founded in 2006, by Tarana Barkes, with the purpose to help survivors of sexual violence. In the beginning, the movement was made particularly for young women of color from low-income communities for them to help find a way of healing. The motivation that drove this movement was to make sure perpetrators are held accountable for their actions and the government implements strategies to sustain long-term, systemic change. By coming together as survivors the #MeToo movement, whose motto is, “empowerment through empathy,” is helping those affected find a place of healing. Sexual Assault was something unspoken about. Today, women in 85 different countries are using the hashtag to bring attention to the violence and harassment they face in daily life and to demand change. #MeToo encourages millions of people to speak out about sexual violence and harassment. By raising awareness and speaking up. By contributing to the #MeToo movement we are changing history. This movement is breaking down the taboos that traditionally silenced conversations about women’s rights. The #MeToo movement is an attempt to get people to understand the prevalence of sexual harassment and assault in society. The #MeToo movement is powerful and inspiring because it was created by women to help women by coming together and supporting each other through tough times. Women are standing up to show that men cannot get away with mistreating the other gender because they might see them as “the weaker sex.” There will be consequences for your actions.
