Apprenticeship Reflection Day 11
Where are your strengths/areas of concern as a teacher? The areas of teaching that I feel are my strengths have really been confirmed through out this mentorship. I definitely have a deep knowledge on both of my content concentrations, and I have really been able to show my strengths in planning and implementing engaging lessons for the students I teach at BCMS. I also think I have been able to form real bonds with these students in the short amount of time that I have spent with them, which has caused them to respect me more, behave better in my class, and most importantly work harder on all the activities and assignments. My areas of weakness have also become very evident to me so far in this mentorship.

Do you know what city contains the longest beach in Ohio? It is Mentor, Ohio, containing Headlands Beach that is approximately one mile long. I chose this city because I have lived in the area my entire life and enjoy the many fascinating attractions the city offers to the community. Not only do I appreciate the city but my entire family also lives in Mentor, and I would like to live near them. Although Mentor is a fantastic city, I wonder if problems with the population of Mentor will affect traffic or pollution and cause families to become distant because they don’t want to travel through a populated city?…

When transitioning to UGA as a freshman, I had tons of questions about the campus and things to do in Athens and didn’t know who to ask. I know I would have benefited from the Peer mentor program and wish it was available when I was a freshman. I want to be a peer mentor because I want to ease the often scary transition from high school to college for a new freshman. When I was a freshman, I spent most of my time either in class, at the dining hall, or in my dorm. I didn’t branch out because I didn’t know what else there was to do on weekends besides football games and I ended up going home most weekends.…

    1. As a DNP practitioner in a leadership role, discuss various methods that you would use to teach EBP in an effort to emphasize active participation by the learners to the greatest extent possible. Evidence shows that students learn more when they engage in active participation rather than just listening and memorizing (Stanford University, n.d.). Some of the methods that emphasize participation include: small-group seminars, presentations integrated with clinical practicum and journal clubs (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015). Small-group seminars are a great opportunity for hands-on practice.…

I feel like my greatest strengths are my compassion, empathy, and desire to learn. I believe compassion is important when teaching because it will allow me to connect with my students on a positive level and encourage them to do their best. In addition, empathy is important because it will allow me to understand my student’s struggles and what I can do to help them. Moreover, I believe that my desire to learn even after I graduate is important. If my students see my passion for learning, maybe I can encourage them to want to learn as well.…

When thinking about my mentor teacher I think of inspirational, caring and hardworking. Teachers are responsible for the environment that fills the class, and teachers should take an active engagement in the classroom. Teachers should have organizations to help with how the lessons flow and keeps the class running smoothly. Another big thing is teachers should take an active role and be apart of student's life and the community.…

Senior Workshop (Meghan Evans) Period 1: Monday Wednesday I feel senior workshop was one of my best workshop classes I’ve ever had. I liked how student driven this class was yet there was barely any days where we didn’t have anything to workshop. I find student driven classes have the ability to fail if not everyone is willing to participate, yet I didn’t see that in this class. Being in a class where so many people were bringing in pieces and and participating made me more motivated to bring in my own pieces and contribute. I feel like the comments I got for my Sylvia Plath inspired piece “Intoxication” were vital and the piece stands out to me as having the most relevant comments.…

Have you had the experience of having a mentor or coach? Yes, I have had the experience of having a mentor or coach. One of my previous managers was a very good mentor to me, and she always gave me great advice. According to the textbook, “a coach is a peer or a manager who works with an employee to motivate him, help him develop skills, and provide reinforcement and feedback” (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gehart, and Wright, 2013, p.425).…

The clinical experience this week was a little better than it was last week. This week I went in with a notion to just treat them like adults and be comfortable with the members. The evidence I have for the collegiate/peer feedback is the comment I received from the mentor teacher on my self-evaluation form, the self-evaluation form for the self-assessment/reflection, and 3 students surveys from each of the three classes that I taught for the student feedback (see Appendix 1). Area of strength An area of strength for my teaching practice would be the different teaching methods and multiple forms of literacy that I’ve included in the lessons, as I have been trying to do a different activity for each lessons, or includes visual, music, and videos in the lessons to give students different approaches to the contents. My mentor teacher commented the different tasks as “interesting and useful” for the students. The students…

Background: For minority researchers to become competitive for NIH R01 funding the National Institutes of Health (NIH) created several mentoring programs to increase diversity in the research workforce [1]. The evaluation of these mentoring programs is lacking regarding the impact on minority women researchers and their research collaborators. Therefore, to increase community and patient engagement in research (CPER), minority women researchers, community members, and patients need provisions for dynamic engagement (in-person and through research networks) to improve research implementation and dissemination. Proposed Solution: We propose to provide opportunities for minority women researchers, community members, and patients to engage in…

This semester I learned many techniques and lessons regarding how to become a better mentor. Some of the major lessons I learned were related to how I communicated and led others.
