Mentorship In The Book Of Acts

Improved Essays
Could mentorship be a main underlining theme throughout the Books of Acts? In my opinion, yes! According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, mentorship is defined as “the guidance provided by a mentor, especially an experienced person in a company or educational institution.” After the combination of my years in CCD and a Catholic middle school and high school, I have come to the conclusion that there are many mentors in the Bible. Jesus can be seen as a mentor to many, or even all, Christians. In the Book of Acts, a possible mentor for Christians and the followers of God, is the Holy Spirit.

Obviously from the source that Windsdor cites is quite some time ago, being in the 20th century itself. Windsdor also goes onto say that the stereotypical mentors that you saw back then and nowadays were pretty much the same, being old wise men/ women. Because we know that both mentor archetypes were similar in the 20th century and today, we can make a connection between the both, safely saying that it hasn’t changed much from even quite some time ago. Windsdor brings up another quote of Vogler’s saying “The Mentor is there to protect the hero and to help him discern between right and wrong. More often than not, the Mentor is teaching the hero lessons he has learned from his own experience.…

Lastly, there must be a replacement of the power of the Spirit in the lives of believers. No longer do even Christians believe in the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. They no longer take risks and believe that the miraculous can be done, when God has proved time and time again it can. Modern day believers must restore their faith in the power that Holy Spirit has. The faithful must take risks and believe that the Holy Spirit is greater than anything in this…

TITLE The Next Christendom by Philip Jenkins is a non-fiction work about the growth and changing of Christianity from a predominately Western religion to a religion that is becoming more concentrated in the South. In the opening portion of the first chapter, his goal is already made clear when Philip Jenkins states that, “the center of gravity in the Christian world has shifted inexorably away from Europe, Southward to Africa and Latin America, and Eastward, toward Asia,” (1). He goes on to emphasize that this shift will only continue in the coming years, as he expects and has backed his claims with research, the Westerner Christians have slowed their growth while the Southern Christians have been and will continue to grow in number.…

Merriam-Webster (1828) states stewardship is “the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care”. I have read Luke 12 many times, and I feel I understand the meaning of stewardship. I often relate stewardship and a servant of God interchangeable. We are called to be good stewards and servants, showing stewardship to others and personal belongings such as money, assets, spiritual gifts and tangibles. It is our responsibility to be good stewards over these things he has given us, how can God trust us with the big things, if we cannot take care of the little things.…

Dr. Wilson (2016) argues that spiritual formation is about “obedience, conformity to Christ, being an apprentice of Jesus Christ, and action of the Word and Spirit.” The basis of Dr. Wilson’s argument is that these component assist in the formation of an individual’s spiritual growth. Scorgie (2011) contends, “Christian spirituality is ultimately about being attentive to the Holy Spirit’s voice, open to his transforming impulses, and empowered by his indwelling presence” (p. 27). In other words, a life that is being formed spiritually will be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, in order to be renewed and invigorated through Christ living in him. This formation is a process that will endure throughout a person’s life, as they continually yield to the work of the Holy…

Christians are called to become more effective in all these areas, but the Lord has given these gifts more to others. It is the Church’s responsibility to bring the people who have these gifts to help teach and develop these gifts in others. Some with the gift of prophesy need to come along those that are weaker in this area and help them along to become more Christ like. Vice versa with the one who is a prophet will need help with a gift of the person that they had helped. Pastor John breaks down these categories of people into: shepherd-these are the ones who take care of the peoples’ needs, teacher- these are the people in the Word studying and preaching the Truth, evangelist- are…

Introduction There are many important doctrines that can be drawn from the Bible and applied to the life of the believer. One of these doctrines includes the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.
