How will Hawthorn Leadership School For Girls contribute to the community? We will make sure every student at Hawthorn has an improvement on behavior, self esteem, and bullying. Tianna Harris, Alece Pate, Miguel Redmond and I were in a group and we e chose to start a mentoring group at Hawthorn grades for 6th-7th. We realized that there is a common problem for 6th and 7th graders at HLSG. The problems we recognized were bullying, low self-esteem and, also, bad behavior. We believe that if we mentor 6th and 7th grader through their ups and downs to be sure they have a better experience than we did in middle school . Our outcome is to improve behavior, stop bullying, and higher self-esteem.
We decided to make to do a mentoring program because we wanted to give the 6th and 7th graders a chance that we didn’t have at their age. We always wanted to start a mentoring program at HLSG but we were turned down on the idea when we first presented it. This capstone was the perfect opportunity to start that. We came ujp with a list of things that we wanted to have while we are at HLSG and out of 10 ideas we our highest was the mentoring program. My role of the capstone was to make sure that everyone was on track ad had a job to do.

My mentors and advisor taught me that you cant just have evrything ready as soon as you get the problem. The most difficult part for me was tryign not to stress with all of the other things that i had on my mind about school. I was stressing about it constantly because it alll affect my grades and determine if i will graduate or

The activity where communication was central to the process was the building a bridge activity. Communication was a vital role that really helped/hindered goal attainment during the activity. A brief overview of the building a bridge activity is that as a group, we would use communication to help us build similar halves of a bridge once we divide into two groups within our original group, that are separated by a tarp. Communication helped us achieve the goal of having a similar bridge halves even though there was the obstacle of only being allowed to ask 3 questions to our other group during the building process. The first struggle within my group was that we were all talking over each other to get our opinions across which we quickly discovered…

Rehearsing Your Personal Case Mentor ship As one of the options I brainstormed to address the delinquent behavior of my juvenile, I've come to believe that what most young people in the juvenile justice system needs is not services or professional assistance. Some do. Some are in the justice system because they cant stop their behavior because they have mental health problems, substance abuse problems and they need professional help to get past those barriers. But many are often suffering from severe cases of adolescence, and they need to be helped with that disorder. Learning responsibility, learning how to associate with others, learning how to make decisions, learning that there are risks in life and that there is no need…

As group facilitator Samantha provided an extra source ahead of time as well as a set of questions for us to discuss. Furthermore, Samantha had the foresight to separate her questions based on the articles making it easy to keep up with discussions and the specific source being used. Additionally, despite initial nervousness Samantha expertly weaved in personal experiences to highlight her points or to nudge the group to think and draw on our own personal experiences for answers. Potential areas of improvement for Samantha might include being more engaged in the discussion throughout its duration rather than mostly at the start and potentially being more willing to support opposing ideas and themes or to even challenge member opinions. Discussion…

We Carlos, Heimark, and I worked very well throughout the semester. Although we never made a formal plan to meet up for any assignments, or schedule an appointment to work for the lab outside of class, but we made a group chat in our cell phones to contact each other to know if we miss to collect data, discuss the calculations, and even to understand the concept of lab. A peer mentor is defined as a person who uses their resources to support, encourage and inform someone. Going into this semester, I was unaware that I would be mentoring another student and thus doubted my abilities. Although I was excited to become a mentor, I questioned whether I would truly be able to make a difference in someone’s life. The difference that I wanted to make could be as simple as helping someone ace a test, but the news of mentoring threw me off track. Nonetheless, I gathered myself and tried to maintain a positive attitude.…

The relationship with a mentee is somewhat different than a relationship between friends. There is a sort of bond that occurs from helping the student but the student holds you to higher standards than a friend would. I am excited about mentoring next semester because I want to hone my mentoring skills even further be able to help my mentees in a more effective way.…
