Mentor is a beautiful city in Lake County, Ohio, which was first settled back in 1797. As of 2010, its population reached 47,159. CNNMoney hailed Mentor as the 68th Best Place to Live in America in 2003. Four (4) years later and it climbed to the 37th spot of the same list.
The name “Mentor” was derived for the Greek figure Mentor. This is a way of keeping the tradition of the Connecticut Western Reserve settlers and most other Americans at that time. It neighboring towns like Euclid, Akron, Solon and Macedonia were also named under the same principle.
In 1876, James A. Garfield bought a home in Mentor. This is where he carried out his first victorious front porch presidential campaign. Garfield coined “Mentorite” when referring to a Mentor
