Not much time had passed in my internship experience before I realized that there were many differences exhibited among my students. My students range from living comfortably (one student’s parents own JSU’s bookstore) to extremely poor (one of my students misses class often because he works to support his family). I also noticed a major difference in academic and social abilities. In my twelfth grade honors course, one student scored a 33 on his ACT. He is extremely driven and dedicated. In contrast to my exceptional student, I have students in my sixth period that cannot spell, never do their work, and have never taken the ACT. Because my students are seniors, I really try to encourage them to come to school and make up their work so they will graduate. I have worked really hard to plan my lessons so as to engage all students and their individual needs. One example of this is my use of technology, which is so prevalent in today’s society. Technology ranges from movies, YouTube videos, online polls, etc. I used a variety of these sources throughout my unit, but my favorite sources were videos for two of the Canterbury pilgrims: the Wife of Bath (Artifact One) and the Pardoner (Artifact Two). Also, I allowed the students to act out Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Artifact Five) using my CT’s drama materials. I thought both of these assignments really excited the artistic and visual learners. The play especially helped my sixth period class that contains several special education students. I have a special education student in my first period class that is only in special education because his vision is impaired due to a genetic disorder. I enlarge the text on all handouts and tests so as to accommodate him and his needs (Artifact Six). I believe that I have succeeded in accommodating most all of my students thus far in my internship experience. The only challenge I have experienced is in my twelfth grade honors course. I have two students who are extremely shy. They chose not to present their pilgrims to the class because they are deathly afraid of public speaking. I discussed the situation with my CT and we decided that we would give the students half credit for researching their pilgrim and writing their findings on a notecard. Unfortunately, both girls are college bound and will have to pass a speech class in order to graduate. I offered to let the girls do their speeches one on one with me, but
