Most instances of success in life do not come without proper planning beforehand. I often relate teachers to coaches because coaches have to create a plan of action. I myself am a coach; I coach the Level One gymnastics team at Noma’s School of Gymnastics in Anniston, Alabama. Each day I have a plan to follow so that my gymnasts receive the preparation they need in order to be successful at their meets. Teachers must also create plans that guide students in their learning. When planning a lesson, teachers must consider all the diverse learners in their classrooms. When coaching gymnastics, I set up certain drills based on gymnasts’ skill and maturity levels. Teachers must also tailor their lessons to meet the needs of diverse students based …show more content…
Not much time had passed in my internship experience before I realized that there were many differences exhibited among my students. My students range from living comfortably (one student’s parents own JSU’s bookstore) to extremely poor (one of my students misses class often because he works to support his family). I also noticed a major difference in academic and social abilities. In my twelfth grade honors course, one student scored a 33 on his ACT. He is extremely driven and dedicated. In contrast to my exceptional student, I have students in my sixth period that cannot spell, never do their work, and have never taken the ACT. Because my students are seniors, I really try to encourage them to come to school and make up their work so they will graduate. I have worked really hard to plan my lessons so as to engage all students and their individual needs. One example of this is my use of technology, which is so prevalent in today’s society. Technology ranges from movies, YouTube videos, online polls, etc. I used a variety of these sources throughout my unit, but my favorite sources were videos for two of the Canterbury pilgrims: the Wife of Bath (Artifact One) and the Pardoner (Artifact Two). Also, I allowed the students to act out Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Artifact Five) using my CT’s drama materials. I thought both of these assignments really excited the artistic and visual learners. The play especially helped my sixth period class that contains several special education students. I have a special education student in my first period class that is only in special education because his vision is impaired due to a genetic disorder. I enlarge the text on all handouts and tests so as to accommodate him and his needs (Artifact Six). I believe that I have succeeded in accommodating most all of my students thus far in my internship experience. The only challenge I have experienced is in my twelfth grade honors course. I have two students who are extremely shy. They chose not to present their pilgrims to the class because they are deathly afraid of public speaking. I discussed the situation with my CT and we decided that we would give the students half credit for researching their pilgrim and writing their findings on a notecard. Unfortunately, both girls are college bound and will have to pass a speech class in order to graduate. I offered to let the girls do their speeches one on one with me, but

Chapter 4: Introductions and Conclusions I liked the visual of “framing” an introduction and conclusion. As a visual individual, I can spend hours picking the best photo (color, black, and white or sepia), then I still get to select the correct style, color, and size of the frame for the picture. I am beginning to visualize how important introductions and conclusions can be to a writer and their readers.…

My job as a chemistry teaching assistant also required a combination of personal and practical skills and ability to be assertive without arrogance. Each week the students had to submit a heavy load of assignments, and keeping track of grading alone required a developed level in time efficiency, accountability, and organizing skills. I had to be knowledgeable enough about the subject to comprise worksheet, practice exams, review sessions, and grade fairly. I also had to know how to communicate that knowledge to the students: proving feedback on misunderstood requirements, clearly answering any questions they had about the material. I knew an accelerated chemistry course can be overwhelming, I always encouraged and motivated the students when…

In my time at Union thus far I have been able to use my unique academic background to enable me to grow and prosper. I originally started out at a middle/high school that was very atypical in that the school did not provide students with grades, nor use exams as a way of evaluating a student’s abilities. The school also did not participate in any form of a standardized test such as the New York State Regents. Instead, I was heavily evaluated by teachers where they would highlight my strengths, identify areas of improvement, and suggest how I was doing in the course. This school was called the Lehman Alternative Community School and emphasized heavy student involvement in the decisions the school made and had strengths at instilling critical…

As an effective coach, it is a key initial step that I know each teacher on a professional level by continually assessing their individual technological needs, learning styles, and prior knowledge-before developing an "appropriate" professional development exercise. This objective of continual assessment, is best accomplished via “management by walking around”, and engaging in direct face to face communications with instructional staff. In order to facilitate effective "personal" communication during all staff interactions, it is my practice to use language that builds trust, encourages forward thinking, and creates a culture of positivity. In establishing strong professional relationships, and a "culture of trust", it is crucial that it…

I felt it was a really instructional video even though it came out in 1989. It is a resource that resins to issues still in society and the classroom. I liked the part about sarcasm and how the guy advised against using it because you make a victim out of the person who you used sarcasm with even though the rest of the class may get enjoyment out of the teacher using sarcasm in his tone of voice. Anxiety makes students unable to answer simple questions. Quitting in less than 6 minutes was surprising for this experiment when these students were expected to give a response.…

Introduction The coach’s role is to develop the coachee’s resourcefulness through skillful questioning, challenges, and support; not advising because when advice is given, the coach implies that he or she knows best and that the coachee does not (Rogers, 2012). Coaching requires a listening ear to ensure that the coachee is understood and is making decisions that will ultimately help accomplish the goals. During this final coaching session, my client and I will be working together to close the coaching sessions and then determine the next phase of our relationship Pre-Coaching Plan…
