Along with my 4 sisters and mom. It was kind of like a group home, but it was only for woman and their kids. At that time we were being separated from my dad. From getting himself in a bad situation with the law and getting himself in to a lot of trouble! At that time it had caught the attention of the social services team, where they had came in and interfered with the problem. As the situation expanded the social worker who was on our case thought that it would be better for all of us to be away from my dad for awhile. I remember the way it all happened so fast. Going from one happy kid to such a depressed one. I remember the hard nights I had where I couldn't fall sleep because all I ever thought about was my dad. I kept asking myself why. Why me? As the hard times came around I remember I just kept pushing myself forward. I was only 7. Going through these obstacles that many have never been through before. I had to overcome them though. It was my only option. I knew that if I just kept on trying and doing everything I could then I'd be able to see my dad again. And that's exactly what happened. I stayed strong, did everything I could and happily 7 years later I'm living a happy life with my entire family. I learned that just because you go through something terrible you have to find it in you to give yourself a reason. From being in such a depressing stage to now a somewhat "happy stage" the writer Stanley believes that what he has witnessed within his life and all his experience's he is taking all of these to be a learning lesson. From such amazing and unforgettable moment's to even the worst and most saddened ones. When he says "road" I believe he is referring to walking through his life time, taking a walk on his own path. Unlike most people who have been through terrible memories Stanley didn't sit there and complain and wonder why he had to go through such things as I had in my personal experience. Instead what Mr. Kunitz did was he viewed all of these experiences as lessons. Learning lessons that made him stronger emotionally and physically. "Every stone on the road precious to me", Stanley is taking his past and making something out of them. He is looking at everything that once occurred as a chance that he managed to take to see himself become a man who is much better and stronger then he once was.
