When Lennie was in the barn trying to figure out what to do with his dead puppy Curley’s wife came in and starting talking to him. George always told him that he shouldn’t listen or talk to her. But she partially manipulated him and started talking about the dead puppy. All Lennie cared about was if he was going to be able to tend the rabbits. Curley’s wife started talking about soft things and mentioned her hair and let Lennie start feeling how soft it was until he got to rough. In the outcome of this he ended up breaking her neck from how rough he was being. Candy found her and automatically knew it had Lennie’s name written all over it. “The poor bastards nuts. Don’t shoot ‘im. He di’n’t know what he was doin’.” (steinbeck 98).
Lastly, Mentally handicapped people should not be held responsible because they don’t know right from wrong. If you allow them to do what they wants or don’t watch what they do something you don't want happening will happen.
