The link between Othello and marriages from the past is they both have the same concept. Back then people mentality was money, race (bloodline/title), and power. In Othello you observe many of those concepts throughout the play and also see the same mentality in certain characters of the play connecting it to people back then. When Brabantio first found out about Desdemona and Othello his first thought wasn’t that they're in love and he's happy for his only daughter but back then it was a sin it wasn’t allowed, even the closest people saw certain actions as betrayal but in reality the actions were out of love.
