It is important to note however, that a German Shepherd requires mental stimulation. If the owner has no control over the dog it will take advantage and disobey because of its strong personality. Both sexes differ from each other, a female may tend to be a little more protective while a male may show more territorial and dominant behavior (guarding the house). On walks the male will mark his territory with urine. Females are not as large as males, and they usually do not weigh as much, they tend to appear slightly more refined or feminine in figure than male dogs.
