The mental status exam is an exam that could determine an individual mental state. Usually a person will be given a mental statue exam when they arrive for a psychological evaluation. The mental status exam is defined as having a full clinical work-up of a psychiatric patient, which includes an assessment of the overall psychiatric condition, diagnosis of existing disorders, prognosis, estimates of suitability for treatment of various kinds, formulation of overall personality and compilation of historical and developmental data (Reber, Allen and Reber, 2009).
