“Lenny said, ‘Tell how it’s gonna be’ ” (105). In Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, George and Lenny travel together to find work during the Great Depression. Lenny has some mental issues, but George sticks with him because of a promise he made to Lenny’s aunt. They find positions at a ranch, make friends, and begin to save money towards their futures. Tragedy strikes when Lenny accidentally kills the wife of the boss and flees. George finds him before the posse sent after him does, and shoots Lenny before they do. Lenny often asks George to repeat certain things that he has said to him, over and over. One particular item is the land they will someday live on.
