All over the world people suffer from mental illness, but no one really likes to talk about it. There are a wide variety of disorders that people suffer from. Loved ones can be suffering from a disorder but choose not say anything because he/her does not want anyone to think something is wrong with him/herself. Some people do not even think it is real, but it is. In the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini readers are able to get insight to some of the mental illness that people suffer from. One character named Sohrab suffers a lot of traumatic events that caused him to suffer from Depression. To witness the death of the two people he loved entirely must have been devastating Also knowing that he could not do anything to stop it did not help him either. The images of his parents murder will always be in his head. Edwards also states that one can become aggravated by events that remind an individual that lost of a loved one. When asked what he wanted he responded “I want Father and Mother jan…”(354). His parents were his safe place, who he could come to, but now they were taken away from him forever. Sohrab was welcomed into the home of Amir but in his mind that was not his home the emptiness he felt of being alone and his parents gone forever is a feeling that Sohrab would have to deal with and learn how to accept the situation and continue with his life with his new family. The feelings will last a lifetime so now Sohrab feels he is alone in the world and see life in a different aspect. Nothing can replace the loss of his biological parents and the close relationship and the safe security he felt with both his parents being there and supporting everything Sohrab did in his lifetime while his parents were alive.
