Research has shown that in Ontario alone, about one out of five 4 to 16 year-olds suffers from some type of psychiatric disorder. Even though treatment of mental illness is generally covered by the Canadian government, one thing that people are not protected against is the social stigma and discrimination that comes along with it. A structural functionalist might observe that the reason young people with mental health issues do not want to get treatment is because society has started a stigma about mental illness, which is making those people feel like there is something wrong with them because of an illness that may have been caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain or because of genetics. Sociologists who believe in the accumulation theory about social change may believe that the problem is that previous generations have not passed down knowledge about mental health. The purpose of this organization is to proved youth with a safe environment where they will be able to get the information and treatments they need to recover. Another purpose of this organization is to also provide the community with correct information on mental illness so that the social stigma surrounding the issue would be cleared. Fresh Start would be located in Downtown Windsor because less fortunate people tend to live there, and people of lesser wealth are thought to have higher chances of acquiring mental illnesses such as depression. Also, youth with less money may not have access to much information regarding mental health, which is why this location would be idea. The people who would work for Fresh Start are psychologists, mental health professionals, a crisis response worker, social workers, peer support workers, and an assistant Manager. The services available would be individual therapy sessions, group therapy, work shops, emergency helplines, and community information sessions. Any patient who has been diagnosed with one or more mental illnesses may have the option to either be included in group therapy or individual therapy. In group therapy, youth ages 12 to 20 with similar mental illnesses will sit together and talk about what is happening in their lives once a week for six weeks. The groups may include 4 to 8 people who suffer from the same mental illness, but if there is less than 4 people,
