Journal Entry 6
I observed: This session had quite a lot of things to be observed. Some of these include the flow of the session i.e. the session had a very few pauses and went very well when members talked about what they were going through. I observed that a few of the members did not have a good eye contact. This occurred when the member tried to explain a situation. Besides this I also observed how a member gave a direct feedback to another member who previously mentioned that they do not like feedback. Furthermore, in this session there were a few members who were not able to make it for the session and it was nice how it did not affect the session at all.
I thought: This session was very useful as some important topics were brought up like anxiety, termination, stigma of mental health issues. While, it was interesting to observe a shift

Fischer started talking about awareness and confrontation, I observed that the member who gave the feedback started feeling anxious. And I interpreted this from her body posture. For example, everyone in the room was comfortable except that member who gave the feedback started shivering. Additionally, the members who were quiet seemed as if they were not engaged in the session. And I assumed this from their eye contact and their posture which seemed as if they are not present in the session.
I intend to use this insight in future groups by: Some of the things that I was able to take away from this session included focusing on key concepts like observing shifts, eye contacts, postures, and importance of termination. I also learned that it is very necessary to be open and be able to confront. This helps to be aware of oneself and how there is a shift. This particular session was very essential to focus on these points and most importantly, start discussing about termination at this point shall help to end the group very

Co-facilitated session plan For the purpose of this assignment, I propose to approach the hypothetical planning of a co-facilitated session with another party in three stages; pre-session, during the session and post- session. Pre-session I would consider the pre-session planning of a co-facilitated session with another party to be an imperative part of the process. As we would both need to work collaboratively throughout the process to help the group achieve goals, the main objective would be for us to meet well in advance of the meeting in order to get to know each other and establish a trusting and respectful relationship, whereby we would welcome constructive feedback and have the ability to work through any differences which may arise.…

Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority, or LCMHA, is an agency that was designed as a place for anyone with a mental diagnosis to go to. In 1970, Lenawee County appointed its first mental health board to explore the cost and the need for a mental health program. The agency was first located in a vacated dentist office that was above a grocery store to be able to start the program right away. Shortly after in 1974, the agency relocated to the Riverside Professional Building. The directors and staff then spent the next three years developing the most efficient way to deliver services.…

I was inspired through the introduction of the open dialogues approach in the lecture, a new ways of thinking about mental illness and the treatment. Psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses; para-professionals; clients; even their family and the public, mostly focused on the controlling of symptoms, as well as removing the symptoms as possible; I thought attention could be more directed to generating dialogues from clients and their family members, attended to what they are saying rather than planning interventions solely aimed at motivating change in the clients or their families. The Open Dialogue approach was first developed in the 1980s by Jaakko Seikkula, Birgitta Alakare, Markku Sutela and their multidisciplinary team at Keropudas hospital…

I have been a gradate student in John F Kennedy University since 2014, and I have learnt a lot about myself since the beginning of the program. As it was the last assignment for the Group Process class, I chose to go to Al-anon group meeting to observe as my participation and/or observation of group. I was curious about how these group works and how the facilitator who is one of the members works in the group. The facilitator, who was called the chairwoman, opened up the meeting by going over the ritual of the Al-anon meetings and then she introduced herself and the topic of the day, which was “choices” in our lives. Then she asked the member next to her to introduce himself and it went around the circle in the room.…
