Mental Health Nursing Research Paper

I believe nursing as a profession means the desire to care for others out of the kindness of your heart. Since I was young, I always dreamed of becoming a psychologist. While in high school, the information I researched related to psychology produced doubts. To become a successful psychologist, an individual will have to stay in school for a long time. I finally came across Mental Health Nursing. My first impression of Mental Health Nursing was the movies I’ve seen with mentally ill individuals provided with little empathy and inhumane care. Soon I realized this perception was inaccurate. My clinical rotations in Mental Health reassured my dreams. Even though my nursing school friends denounced my decision to pursue mental health, I continued to stand by my admiration. An article by Wojtowicz also presented undergraduate nursing students typically does not have positive attitudes towards mental health nursing and mental health patients (Wojtowicz, 2014). Despite others opinions, the surge of drive I received every time I assessed a mentally ill individual filled my heart with compassion and fueled the fire to pursue Psychiatric Nursing in the near future. The patient will not share accurate information related to health history if they feel their statements will be shared with others not related to their care unrelated to their plan of care. This is especially true with paranoid patients, who already have distorted thought and problems with trusting others.
