Technology has influenced our lifestyles for years now, but children are becoming immune with electronic devices by the age of eight and younger. Parents need to consider that having their children look at a screen for a long time is bad for them. In The future, they will constantly use it for everything, so parents need to control screen time for their children and entertain them more like electronic devices do; so make rules for the electronic devices like limit screen time and be active. The parents are influencing the child, so show them the right examples. In Tracy Crawford’s article “In Mental Health Matters: How technology can affect you mental health,” wrote about how technology can cause children can be diagnosed with mental illnesses bipolar disorder, autism and etc. “ If a child is demonstrating problem behavior and/ or psychotropic medications are being considered, turn off the technology first” (Crawford). This explains that children aren’t connecting or interacting with others, which is why children are getting diagnose with mental illnesses very early age. Having a child take medication because he/she was diagnosed with some mental illness due to technology is upsetting. Parents need to consider that children need to engage in face-to-face communication, so they can get these mental illnesses’. Children are looking at a screen for countless of hours and becoming inactive. Sure there are parents that believe that electronics are helping their children in academically and physically. Parents need to take control of the situation on how much and how long their children can look and interact with technology. Your children look up to you for inspiration and examples, so if you are on your phone for 5 hours’ time to time your child will most likely do the same thing.
