The major take-a-way point from this experience is that everyone, no matter the age is struggling with mental health. Some people will reach out and express how they are feeling, but other people take a while to open up. I thought it was very interesting to see this first-hand at the VA. Some patients would open up freely and then others would seclude themselves in the corners of the day room. When I would see this happening, I would go over and try and strike a conversation with them and eventually during the conversation they would open up and talk. I feel like this experience has given me a better respect for the mental health field. Many people want to call it the crazy house, but honestly the VA mental health floor is a place for others
