I believe in this semester I have learned many things that would make me a better counselor in training. I do not believe I am fully prepared/ready to be a mental health counselor yet. I believe even seasoned professionals can always learn from every experience they encounter and can only be ready by practicing/providing direct services to clients. I do believe that this class has taught me a great amount of knowledge about community mental health and all the strengths and weaknesses involved. One important point that I learned about was related to prevention and using "sensitizing proximal agents" to my advantage when I am a licensed clinician. Proximal agents are people in the community who have close and regular contact with members of populations likely to face specific challenges in life (Teed & Schileppi, 2007). These people are typically around to consult/help, alert, and teach the prevention of problems from occurring. I think this is pivotal to the community mental health system without having interdisciplinary teams and resources, we cannot ensure proper care for our clients.

I believe this semester has taught me about looking further for research that I am currently interested in and made me think of doing more investigation of interventions that are evidence based.
