My perception of a counselor role when I first entered the mental health counseling program at Touro back in 2013 was with a supporter of the mental illness came the awareness of the importance of counseling as a practice of treatment. During my journey, I discovered that counseling may be challenging as it needs to be individual detailed. What works for one individual may or may not work for another. Whereas “finding counseling” has felt like a very lengthy progression already, I know that the development of “understanding counseling” has just begun in my new found career. I have the utmost belief in these two theories that this will assist me in applying single or both theories into my personal practice and for my clients; whether individual, couple, or group setting which address any issues or concerns that arise during my counseling career and within my scope of practices. One of my achieving goals is to become certified in other theories and new techniques throughout my new career that will be appropriate for the clients’ and suitable for all situations that arise with the client personal lifestyle. To become a superior mental health counselor it’s important to become aware of all aspects of the counseling profession. I have an interest in Solution-Focused and Cognitive Behavior Theories; however I’m open-mind to learn all theories, practices; this will ensure advance learning and growth development in the application practices of counseling that I can apply to my clients. The reason for my approach within the counseling profession is to familiarize myself regarding client’s needs and exceptions; when counseling an individual on one to one to assist in resolving their issues or concerns to have the outcome goal of living a better quality lifestyle. I believe the growth of the profession is dependent on the growth of the people it serves. Is the people getting healthy or worsen? Is the counseling profession getting closer for individuals to search for counseling services or let the person get worse? As healthcare professional we need to seek more knowledge and skills to assist the client with coping skills, healthy lifestyle, and positive support structure for the client. The counselor must obtain their core values, dynamics, and documentation efficiency. For me, counseling impact me in a positive way due to the upcoming standards, more tighten structure framework for all counseling organizations to ensure less errors with client’s lives. In addition, my huge impact was becoming a better communicator, listener, and understanding about client’s situation. I give each client respect, honesty, and communication that has an impact on my counseling performance and ensures all my clients is well taken care
