Because, of the strength of the program, its proximity, and its flexibility to the target audience, it is reasonable to believe that the program will improve the well-being and short-term performance while mitigating any negative long-term mental health problems for both CAF personnel and their families. Moreover, considering that findings from 2002 indicated that 84% to 96% of CAF personnel that met criteria for a mental disorder, did not use services stated that they did not need services, I think the program will contribute to help CAF personnel recognize distress and seek support when required (Bailey, 2015). However, the success of the program is related to this actual context, perhaps, if the organizational culture change to the point that CAF personnel master their mental health continuum, the requirement for such education will become irrelevant. Therefore, it would be important to evaluate the context at the same time of evaluating the program outcomes (Posavac,…

As in the case of Jason, having an awareness of the client’s identities and multicultural background is key in helping Shakira build her strengths and helping me (the counselor) establish an understanding of the unique issues that concern her. To begin with, multicultural competence training can be beneficial to both the client and counselor. As a counselor, it will enable me to build rapport, respect, knowledge and awareness of my client’s cultural background. And like wise, it will help Shakira express her feelings, drawing out issues; turning negative experiences into optimistic stories of strength, accomplishment and positive resilience.…

There is often the misconception that people with mental health issues are dangerous and are criminals. This stereotype probably came into existence due to the media around the world reinforcing people’s ideas, while also lacking awareness and exposure. Therefore, like many places in the world, Croatia had a mental asylum where they kept the patients locked up, and away from the rest of society while claiming to rehabilitate the patients. Interestingly, many of the patients locked up had never committed a crime, but were simply in need of proper psychological care. However, there has been a huge shift in the way they approach mental health rehabilitation and they have transformed the prison into something resembling that of a university that…

Hays discusses and critiques Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) through a multicultural lens. Hays begins her article by explaining that mainstream psychological research, or research focused on developing treatment for the mentally ill, still treats race, ethnicity, and culture, as separate variables instead of studying the possible impacts these variables have on the effectiveness of treatment for minorities.
