Mental Health Case Study DM
Demographic Data: LS is a 44 year-old female of African and Hispanic decent. She was born in California but moved to Las Vegas as a teenager. She stated that she attended Clark High School and went to a “stewardess college” in California. She worked as a stewardess for 4 years and quit in 1986. Her father was African-American and her mother is Hispanic. She has 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She is married and lives with her husband and his son in their private home. She

When she was released to go home, she made an appointment to see her private psychiatrist. Her psychiatrist suggested that she go to the emergency room so her husband immediately took her to St. Rose Dominican hospital. Her husband suggested that he take her to Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) instead but she refused. Later on, she agreed to have the paramedics take her to SNAMHS and was admitted on 9/22/2010.
Mental Health Assessment:
General Observations LS appeared clean although her hair was untamed. Her clothes were clean but her oversized shirt was hanging off of her shoulder and her teeth appeared crooked, but clean. She had full range of motion, good posture, and appeared overweight. At first, she appeared to be in her late thirties or early forties; this is relative to her actual age, 44. She is capable of performing activities of daily living.
Client’s Reaction to Interview LS was very eager to tell her story. Upon meeting her, she was very courteous and friendly to my partner and I. During the interview, she maintained eye contact and used many hand gestures. She was able to answer most of the questions sufficiently and felt very positive about her recovery. She stated, “I’ve overdosed on Xanax 15 times but I’m still here. Obviously, God wants me alive.” She spoke a lot about how her spirituality is helping her to recover and how her family is very supportive of her. She felt very anxious to
