In talking to some local mental health professionals, they seem to feel that preceptors need to have effective communication skills that are used to attend to a learners needs, they need to understand the principles if how adults learn to best assess and teach them, they need to have a vast clinical experience to help bridge the gap of necessary skills that are needed to handle mental health patients; They need to understand how to the organization's philosophy, structures, policies, procedures, support systems from managers, unit teachers, peers, and able to share experiences that may occur in mental health that would be useful to the knowledge of the students.
