Mental health is a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental illness. It is the “psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment”. From the perspective of positive psychology, mental health may include an individual’s ability to enjoy life, and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. The world has had not just an issue but thousands of issues with the mentally and physically ill dating back further than the medieval times. According to Aneshensel anything and everything good was perceived as the work and blessing of God, but on the other hand anything out of the ordinary of the church was seen as the work of the devil himself. When demonic possession was believed to have occurred, the first option for removing the demon was to lure it out of the possessed person. If this was unsuccessful, the next option would be to insult the demon out. If insulting the demon also failed, the next practice of cure would involve making the possessed individual so uncomfortable that the demon would not want to stay there. It would be under these conditions where torturous dealings such as soaking in hot water, and dipping in Sulphur gases would be used (Aneshensel, 1992).
