What is Mental Health

According to the Government of Western Australia Mental Health Commission (2015), “A mental illness is a health problem that significantly affects how a person thinks, behaves and interacts with other people. It is diagnosed according to standardised criteria. A mental health problem also affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves, but to a lesser extent than a mental illness.” Not only is a mental illness damaging to one’s personal life, it is more common than one might think. In fact, one in every five Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Not only is this fact scary and true it is taken lightly by some many people across the world. But please understand that the general population 's awareness of mental illness has grown over the years from once it once was. We now have a higher understanding about the mentally ill thanks to the advances in the science of the brain. Even though we have come far we still have not improve the lives of the mentally ill nearly as much as we should have. most people hear that someone has a mental illness and automatically writes that person off as weak.
