Why Should We Care About Mental Health

Mental health is a growing disease within the United States and also a leading cause for disability. With the increased rate of individuals in the United States being diagnosed with this disease, it is important that our country starts to draw awareness to the topic. Mental illness is generally alterations in mood, how one thinks, and how one behaves pertaining to distress. The growing awareness and record keeping of this disease in past years have allowed us to see an incline in diagnosis. Alarmingly by 2010, 1-5 children or adolescents were diagnosed with a mental illness. The most common diagnosis in this age range is ADHD. Individuals can also be diagnosed with more then one mental disease; making some patients complex in mental disease and care.
