Mental And Emotional Health Class Analysis

Mental and Emotional Health course was not only fun, but also very knowledgeable. First of all, I have learned a lot while presenting chapter eight in class. Chapter eight was based on stress management. It was very important presenting this material in class because we all go through stress, especially since we all have a lot going on in our lives such as school, work, family, friends, and etc. It all really depends on how we handle it. We need to look at stress in a positive manner and be able to handle any situation that is given to us. For instance, a person should always consider altering their lifestyle, prioritize, use social support, use humor, and be able to structure activities. Personally, this material really helped me change my …show more content…
I feel like each group opened up my eyes to the chapters that were being presented in the text. The students presented the material in different ways that made class lectures very fun and interesting. For instance, one group talked about self-esteem. I have learned that having good self-esteem improves a person’s mental and physical health. I was one of those people who had low self-esteem because I was bullied from elementary school until ninth grade year of high school. I have struggled with self-esteem most of my life. My sister taught me that I shouldn’t let people bring me down. She helped me overcome my low self-esteem issues. If it weren’t for her, I would not be where I am …show more content…
This class has definitely taught me how everyone has different ways of perceiving things. We should always show empathy to people no matter what because we never know what they may be going through. I feel that the presentations helped some of us overcome our fears of public speaking and gave us more knowledge on the material we were presenting. Personally, if it wasn’t for the presentations, I would still be terrified of public speaking, but now I have more confidence in doing them. Also, I liked how we got to spend the day at the Eco-Adventure Pavilion on the last day of class. The activities that we played brought us together, especially when we played the boat game because we did great on working together as a class. I am definitely going to recommend this professor to my colleagues who still need to take Mental and Emotional

Thirty years ago, students attending Wahconah Regional High School had a different experience as they went through their normal activities of the year. For example, if a student were to play two sports throughout the course of an academic year, they did not have to pay a sports fee (today that fee is $100). Why is that? The answer is simple. Funding is different because the tax system imposed on the seven surrounding towns.…

    1. How did you analyze your students? My class as a whole seems to understand the term greater/ more than, less than an equal too. This course has been very beneficial to my development as a culturally grounded social worker. There were four components that stood out to me. One thing that stood out to me was the article regarding the experiences of Vietnamese refugees. The article painted a great picture of the treatment of those who are from underrepresented populations. The feelings you described were raw and represent feelings of others who might feel uncomfortable with speaking up for themselves when they are treated properly.…

The halls of Westlake High School are filled with several amazing teachers. Ranging from the enthusiastic English teachers to the down-to-earth Chemistry teachers, this high school has a unique and eccentric staff. Yet out of all the teachers that fill the school grounds, only two teachers have earned the title of being my favorites. Those two teachers are my junior year Art History teacher Ms Darrow and my senior year European History teacher Ms Cluck. Both being history teachers, they shined a light on a school subject that many tend to dismiss the importance of.…

This was a very inspiring chapter. The compare and contrast assignment with magazines you did with your class had me thinking about how I can’t wait to teach. I remember when I was in school those types of magazines were very popular, especially Word Up! So reading the story about Brandy was nostalgic as well as inspiring to me. I also really enjoyed the videos about the two young students.…

One problem I learned from class, is that women are currently still face many issues that were once thought of as being resolved. Issues such as wage discrimination, job discrimination, sexualization, and violence are only a few of the many issues we are challenged with. Not only do women still deal with these issues but we also endure sexism on a day to day biases. These issues never came to my attention in my everyday life. However, through taking this class it made me socially aware of the issues that I was facing but was not conscious of.…

Through the progression of this course, various aspects of history were viewed, in addition to concepts that are still associated to the lives of Aboriginal peoples today. While carrying some previous, biased knowledge on the topics discussed, First Nations Studies allowed the development of many ideas as well as the differing perspectives on each. Via the use of assorted reading selections, tutorial discussions, guest speakers, lectures, and a variety of other forms, I was able to take away a unique understanding, different to the one I had prior, which in turn educated me on Indigenous communities. This course attempted to bypass the anger that has been accumulated over the years, and portray information in order to avoid further issues…

As part of the Engaged Citizenship Common Experience (ECCE), the Speaker Series class offers the students the opportunity of participating in several events, which raise awareness on some of the issues that our society faces nowadays. This class allows students to be more involved in the community and teaches them that every voice can have an impact in a problem and every voice deserves to be heard. During the Fall semester 2016, I participated in four events: Truth Telling: Promoting Healing, Change, and Joy for the Movement! , Hispanic Americans: Civil Rights, Social Justice and the Legal System - Where Policy Meets Practice, 14: Dred Scott, Wong Kim Ark & Vanessa Lopez, and How to Loiter.…

On Thur. March 31, I was granted the privilege of being able to observe one of the history classes at Faith Academy High School. While there, I was able to sit in on Mr. Smith’s ninth grade world history class of which they were studying WWII and its influence. It was during my visit at Faith Academy, that I was granted the privilege of observing some wonderful students, teacher, faculty and staff. Some of the most amazing aspects that I observed while at the school was: the classroom/school culture, the way the arrangement and decor of the classroom, and finally the classroom management and the interaction between the teacher discipline and student behavior.…

I believe this course was very effective for students as it reflects the purpose of every assignment. Every assignment not only helped me to gain knowledge about different topics but also help me understand their meaning and how they reflect in our life. Ex. I never knew what is Emotion & learning was until I was given the assignment. There I found emotion is very muchly involved in our daily learning and it either builds our motivation to learn or could also discourage us to learn.…

When looking back at this whole semester, I would say that there were a few things that I did learn. Some subjects from the book definitely stood out more than others. A few key things that I can take with myself and be easily remembered. I believe that I have learned quite a few things about myself but more on the subject itself and how to handle certain situations. Taking this class I feel helped me to get a better look on how to deal with other people, learning to react to certain situations, and not everything is in your control.…

The fictional character that best exhibits the diagnosis for schizophrenia is Timmy Turner, a ten year old boy starring on Fairly Odd Parents. He is neglected by his parents and left to suffer under the supervision of his abusive babysitter. Soon Timmy gets to be under the care of fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda who grant his every wish which most of the time lead to bad consequences. My reasoning for diagnosing Timmy with schizophrenia comes from his idea of two fictional characters making major impacts on his life. When watching Season 7 Episode 4 of the show the fairly oddparents said some eerie comments.…

Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…

Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. This show how important the theories are to me as an emerging social worker.…
