Advertising is all about grabbing people’s interest, and the best way to do that is to advertise things that relates to them. Most companies refuse to challenge the stereotype that we have come to know because it can become a very dangerous game. Men are also stereotyped to be tough. They do not cry or they are not supposed to show their feelings about things. Men are also stereotyped to not care about people or things. They are stereotyped as the ones who work to bring money home, while their spouse takes care of the house, children and cooking. It is thought that men do not do anything but work and come home to a clean house and quiet children. If advertising companies want to make the man look nice, all they do is dress him nice, a nice haircut and if they have a beard, make it look clean. Men usually do not care what they look like. They don’t try to wear makeup to make themselves feel better. They are not expected to look nice at all times. You never see men wearing a full face of makeup to catch someone’s attention. It has become socially acceptable that men looking good is not much of a masculine trait. That is why it was such a big shock for COVERGIRL to revel James as their new face of COVERGIRL.
