In Shakespeare's Hamlet, critics often refer to the title character as the “best of men and the worst of men.” The best of Hamlet is seen through his love for his biological parents. At first, Hamlet worries that the ghost of his father has been sent by the devil as a trick for him to kill Claudius. Despite this possibility, his deep love for his father demands that he makes the promise to avenge Claudius for Old Hamlet's death. Prince Hamlet starts to secretly plot his revenge as soon as he learns of how his father, King Hamlet, truly died, by murder from Claudius. In his soliloquy in Act 1, Hamlet compares his life to an untended garden that was once filled with love and joy is now filled with the weeds of hatred and revenge, causing
